"SB79 will have an infinite impact on single family homes."

"We need new leadership in Sacramento."

"This isn't about housing, it's about a massive wealth transfer from communities to developers."

Jessica Rodgers

Community Advocate

"SB 79 is a direct threat to the character and stability of our neighborhoods."

"Sacramento's one-size-fits-all approach doesn't work for our diverse communities."

"Fire safety is not a negotiable item, yet this bill treats it as an afterthought."

Traci Park

Los Angeles City Councilmember

"Legislation like SB 79 undermines the critical role of local governments in planning for their communities."

"We cannot allow state mandates to jeopardize the safety of our residents in high-risk fire zones."

"The focus should be on empowering communities, not overriding them."

What is SB 79 and Why Is It So Dangerous?

SB 79 is a radical state-level bill that aims to eliminate single-family neighborhoods across California. Pushed by State Senator Scott Wiener, it follows previous attempts like SB 50, SB 9, and SB 10 to force high-density housing into communities without their consent.

How It Works:

SB 79 would allow developers to build 55 to 75-foot towers on lots currently zoned for single-family homes if they are within a quarter-mile of a "transit stop." But the devil is in the details.

The Hidden Dangers:

The "Ghost Bus" Fiction

The bill's definition of "transit" is a shell game. It allows development based on unfunded, "paper" bus routes that are merely a wish list. A bus stop sign in the dirt is not a climate strategy, but SB 79 builds on it anyway.

No Escape Route

In fire-prone areas like the Pacific Palisades, existing evacuation routes are already dangerously inadequate. SB 79 ignores this reality, allowing developers to add thousands of new residents to areas with no safe way out. This isn't planning; it's building a trap.

A Massive Wealth Transfer

This bill is not about housing people; it’s about transferring wealth. It allows Wall Street-backed developers to bulldoze homes, build luxury units, and displace communities, while taxpayers are left to pay for crumbling infrastructure.

Ignoring a Better Way

Local communities are already working to solve the housing crisis with plans that fit their unique geography and needs. SB 79 is a top-down mandate that erodes trust and makes it harder to build the right kind of housing.

A dense urban area encroaching on single-family homes.

LOCAL CONTROL MATTERS

"SB 79 threatens fire safety, single-family homes, infrastructure, and local democracy. Join us to oppose this dangerous bill."

SB 79 Puts Our Communities at Critical Risk

Wildfire Danger

Allows towers in High Fire Hazard Zones with no new evacuation plans. Housing without evacuation is a trap.

Infrastructure Collapse

Our roads, water, and sewers are already strained and will be overwhelmed, leaving taxpayers with the bill.

Loss of Local Control

This bill bulldozes local democracy, allowing Sacramento to override community planning.

The Affordability Myth

A developer giveaway to build luxury towers, not the family housing Californians actually need.
